Our verdict

Orange Travel is the travel eSIM from the French operator Orange: fixed-data plans for most countries, a Europe plan, and a few plans with calls and texts, all with hotspot and top-ups. It suits travellers who want a big-operator brand and 24/7 chat support, but you must register the line with a passport within 30 days or it is suspended. The score below is calculated from checked prices, features, coverage and customer ratings, not a hands-on test.

Orange Travel pros and cons

Pros

  • Run by Orange, which says it covers 200+ destinations through 700+ partner networks
  • Hotspot sharing allowed for tablets and laptops
  • Some plans include calls and texts as well as data
  • Top up the same eSIM from the website or the app
  • Full refund advertised for an eSIM you never used
  • 24/7 support by live chat, in the app and by email

Cons

  • Identity registration with a passport is required within the first 30 days, or the line is suspended
  • The eSIM can only be downloaded once, so deleting it by mistake means losing it
  • Top-ups are final: no refund or cancellation once completed
  • No fair-use details or speed figures stated for its unlimited plans
  • Some countries are only covered by the Europe plan, not a country plan

How Orange Travel works

  1. Check your phone supports eSIM: dial *#06# and look for an EID, or use our eSIM compatibility checker.
  2. Choose your destination and plan on the website or in the Orange Travel app, then pay.
  3. Install the eSIM before you travel: from the QR code Orange emails you, or with one tap in the app. Installing needs an internet connection, ideally Wi-Fi.
  4. Register the line with your passport within 30 days. Orange says this takes under five minutes; unregistered lines are suspended.
  5. On arrival, turn on Mobile data and Data roaming for the eSIM line. If it doesn’t connect, pick a network manually.
  6. Top up the same eSIM when you need more: log in, or enter the phone number or SIM ID from your confirmation email.

Frequently asked questions

Is Orange Travel a good eSIM?

Orange Travel is run by the operator Orange and offers hotspot, top-ups, 24/7 chat support and some plans with calls and texts. Its main drawback is the passport registration you must complete within 30 days. Compare its live prices with other providers in the tables on this page before you choose.

Yes. Orange asks you to register the line with your passport within the first 30 days, and suspends lines that aren’t registered. Orange says registration takes under five minutes and does not change your plan’s expiry date or data allowance.

Orange advertises a full refund for an eSIM you haven’t used. Top-ups are different: once a top-up is completed it is final and can’t be refunded or cancelled. If a top-up fails after you order it, Orange cancels the order and the payment.

Some destinations have Data+Calls+SMS plans with call minutes and texts; the others are data only. Orange’s pages don’t say which country the phone number comes from, and some customers report receiving a number from another country than they expected.

Yes. Orange says its eSIM can work as a personal hotspot for other devices, including tablets and laptops.
