Our verdict

Roamless is one global eSIM you install once and use in 200+ destinations, paying either with pay-as-you-go credits that never expire or with fixed and unlimited data plans. It suits frequent travellers who hate buying a new eSIM for every trip. The catch is its refund rule: you only get money back if your phone can’t take the eSIM. The score below is calculated from checked prices, features, coverage and customer ratings, not a hands-on test.

Your money isn’t tied to the eSIM itself. You can turn the eSIM off between trips, delete and reinstall it, or move it to a new phone, and your balance stays in your account.

How Roamless works

  1. Check your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked with our eSIM compatibility checker. This matters more with Roamless than with most providers, because a phone that can’t take the eSIM is the main reason it gives refunds.
  2. Install the Roamless app and its single global eSIM, ideally over Wi-Fi before you travel.
  3. Add pay-as-you-go credit, buy a data plan for your destination, or both.
  4. On arrival, the eSIM connects to the strongest local network it can find. Turn on data roaming for the Roamless line.
  5. Top up in the app when you need more. If you hold rewards, a plan and credit at once, Roamless uses rewards first, then the plan, then your credit.

Pay-as-you-go or a data plan?

Pay-as-you-go credit is charged per MB at each country’s rate and never expires, so it suits short stopovers and light use across many countries. A data plan costs less per GB but lasts 30 days from your first use, so it suits a longer stay in one country or region.

Roamless unlimited plans: what you really get

Roamless’s Japan unlimited plans give you 3 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps until the allowance resets 24 hours later. That’s enough for maps, messaging and browsing after the cap, but not for video calls or streaming.

Tip: If you’ll tether a laptop every day, a large fixed-data plan avoids the daily slowdown. Roamless’s plans allow hotspot sharing.

Calls, texts and phone numbers

The Roamless eSIM is data-only and comes without a phone number. You can make calls inside the Roamless app, paid per minute from your credit, over Wi-Fi or any mobile data. Roamless Numbers, a separate subscription, adds a number for receiving calls and sending and receiving texts in the app.

WhatsApp, FaceTime and other calling apps keep working on your usual number over Roamless data. Keep your home SIM switched on if you need texts such as bank codes.

Roamless refunds: the catch

Roamless refunds a purchase when you can’t install or activate the eSIM because of your device: the phone has no eSIM support, or it’s locked to a carrier that won’t unlock it. Temporary connection problems don’t qualify, and neither do credits or data plans you have already started using.

Approved refunds go back to your card, not to Roamless credit. Roamless says they take 5 to 10 business days, depending on your bank.

Check first: Confirm your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked before you add credit. Change of plans isn’t a refund reason at Roamless, so buy credit close to your trip if it might be cancelled.

Roamless promotions and ways to save

Roamless’s refer-a-friend page offers new users a discount on their first purchase. Existing users who share their referral code from the app earn Roamless credit each time a friend signs up and buys. Roamless doesn’t say on that page whether the discount combines with other offers, so expect one discount per order.

We found no 2026 Black Friday sale on Roamless’s site so far. The plan tables above always show the price you pay today.

What customers say about Roamless

Reviews on the App Store and Trustpilot praise the simple setup, staying connected across several countries on one eSIM, and credit that doesn’t expire. The most common complaints are credit running out faster than expected, an app that some find confusing to navigate, and slow speeds or trouble connecting to a local network on arrival.

Tip: If you use pay-as-you-go credit, check the per-MB rate for your destination in the app and switch to a data plan for heavy use. That avoids the surprise drained balance some reviewers describe.

Frequently asked questions

Is Roamless legit?

Yes. Roamless sells a working travel eSIM for 200+ destinations through its own app on iPhone and Android, with live chat and email support. Its App Store and Trustpilot ratings are part of the eSIM Mentor score at the top of this page. Its main weakness is a narrow refund rule, so check your phone before you buy.

No. Roamless says pay-as-you-go credit stays in your account with no expiry date, so you can use it on a later trip. Data plans are different: they last 30 days from your first use, and unused data expires at the end.

Only if your phone can’t install or activate the eSIM, for example because it has no eSIM support or is carrier-locked. Used credit, used data plans and temporary connection problems aren’t refunded. Approved refunds go back to your card.

Not with the eSIM itself, which is data-only. You can call from inside the Roamless app using your credit, and a separate Roamless Numbers subscription adds a number for receiving calls and texts in the app.

Yes. Roamless’s plans allow hotspot sharing. On unlimited plans, remember that speed drops after the daily full-speed amount, which a laptop can use up quickly.
