Mobile networks in Spain
Spain’s telecoms regulator, the CNMC, lists four mobile operator groups: Movistar, Vodafone, MasOrange and Digi. Travel eSIMs don’t have their own network; they connect you to one or more local ones. Here is what each provider names for its Spain plans:
| Provider | Local networks it uses |
|---|---|
| Airalo | Orange 5G |
| aloSIM | Movistar, Orange |
| Holafly | Not stated by the provider |
| Jetpac Global | movistar, Orange |
| Nomad eSIM | Movistar 5G, Orange 5G |
| Saily | Not stated by the provider |
| Voye Global | Orange Spain |
As listed on each provider’s plan pages, shown by network brand name. Networks can change, so check before you buy.
Sources: CNMC: monthly telecoms data, May 2026, checked 27 October 2026.
Tip: Nomad, Jetpac and aloSIM list both Movistar and Orange for Spain, so your phone can switch to the other network where one is weak, which helps in the countryside and on long train journeys.
How much data do you need in Spain?
Maps, transport apps, translation and messaging use little data; video, social feeds and sharing your connection with a laptop use the most. For a number based on your own apps and trip length, use the data usage calculator for a week in Spain, then pick a plan just above it.
Unlimited eSIM for Spain: what you really get
Most “unlimited” plans give you a daily amount at full speed, then slow down until the next day. Here is what each provider states for its Spain unlimited plans.
| Provider | Full speed per day | After that |
|---|---|---|
| Airalo | 5 GB | 1 Mbps |
| aloSIM | No daily amount stated | Not stated by the provider |
| Holafly | No daily amount stated | Not stated by the provider |
| Jetpac | 3 GB every 24 hours | Up to 1 Mbps |
| Nomad | 2 GB | 1 Mbps |
| Saily | 5 GB | Up to 1 Mbps |
| Voye Global | 3 GB or 5 GB, depending on the plan | Slower speed, resets daily |

Calls, SMS and WhatsApp
Airalo, Holafly, Nomad and Saily state that their Spain plans are data-only, without a Spanish phone number. WhatsApp, FaceTime and other calling apps keep working on your usual number over the eSIM’s data. Keep your home SIM switched on for texts such as bank codes.
Using a Spain eSIM as a hotspot
Holafly allows up to 1 GB of hotspot sharing a day on its Spain plans, while Saily says you can share data through a hotspot with no limitations. If you’ll work from a laptop, pick one of those whose rule fits, or check the Hotspot column in the plans table for each plan’s stated rule.

Frequently asked questions
Not normal calls on most plans. Airalo, Holafly, Nomad and Saily state that their Spain plans are data-only, without a Spanish number. Use WhatsApp, FaceTime or another calling app over the eSIM’s data, and keep your home SIM on for texts such as bank codes.
Usually not at full speed. Airalo and Saily give 5 GB a day at full speed, Jetpac 3 GB, Nomad 2 GB and Voye Global 3 GB or 5 GB, after which speed drops until the next day. Holafly and aloSIM don’t state a daily amount.
It depends on the provider. Airalo and Voye Global list Orange for Spain, while Nomad, Jetpac and aloSIM list both Movistar and Orange, so your phone can switch between them. The networks section of this page shows the latest list for each provider.
Only if you visit more than one country. For Spain alone, a Spain plan is usually the simpler choice; if your route includes Portugal, France or Italy, compare a Europe plan in the eSIM finder against separate country plans.
A day or two before you fly, over Wi-Fi. Don’t install it much earlier if you might cancel: Nomad and Saily give a full refund only on eSIMs that haven’t been installed. Saily also starts an unused plan by itself 180 days after purchase.
